Student, Young Professional and Newcomer Orientation

The DSCC 2011 organizing committee is pleased to announce a Students, Young Professionals, and Newcomers orientation that will take place from 6.00pm to 7.30pm on Monday, October 31. The orientation’s main goals will be: (1) to serve as an ice-breaker allowing newcomers to introduce themselves to the ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Division (DCSC) as a community; (2) to give student members of DSCD a perspective on how being active and visible in DSCD can help both our academic community and the students’ career growth; (3) to provide a very brief overview of the DSCD’s current strategic plan, and the opportunities within this plan for students to actively serve society and advance their careers; and (4) to help coalesce student participation within DSCD into a more organized, active, and beneficial presence for all involved. Attendance of either this orientation or the Executive Committee meeting is expected from students wishing to receive travel grants to DSCC 2011. More details on this orientation will be made available on the DSCC 2011 website. We look forward to your attendance and participation.
Women in DSCD Luncheon:

The 2011 DSCC will hold the fourth annual Women in DSCD Luncheon. Please join us to meet/reunite with other female colleagues. We also celebrate DSCD Chair Dawn Tilbury, the first female Division Chair in the history of DSCD and 2011 DSCC Program Chair Marcia O’Malley, the first female Program Chair in DSCC history.
Conference Luncheon and DSCD Awards Ceremony
Time: Tuesday, November 1, 2011, noon – 2:00 pm

The conference luncheon will be preceded by the annual DSCD Awards Ceremony. The DSCD awards for 2011 will be presented, including the Outstanding Young Investigator Award, the Yasundo Takahashi Education award and the Rudolf Kalman Best Paper Award. The ASME Rufus Oldenburger Medal and the ASME Dedicated Service Award will be presented by the ASME Past President, Mr. Robert Simmons. The Student Best Paper finalists will be introduced and the winner will be announced. The Nyquist Lecturer will be acknowledged. This will be followed by a lecture given by the recipient of the Oldenburger Medal.
Fluid Power Systems and Technology (FPST) Awards Dinner
Time: Tuesday, 1 November 2011, 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Location: Pinzimini Restaurant (Westin Arlington Gateway Hotel)

The FPST Awards Dinner will begin with a reception at 6:30 PM followed by Dinner at 7:30 PM. The 2011 Robert E. Koski Medal will be presented to Dr. Richard Burton after the Dinner.
Farewell Reception

Coffee Breaks
Refreshments and light snacks will be provided during the 30 minutes-long breaks between sessions. It will be an opportunity to network and exchange ideas among the conference participants.
