Local Attractions

  • San Antonio is the second largest city in the state of Texas and is visited by more than 28.1 million annual visitors --- see Wikitravel on San Antonio. There are lots of things to do including several fine art museums, historical missions and amusement parks.

  • The conference hotel has a serene and relaxing atmosphere amid a lush, natural Texas landscape, sparkling fountains and charming, historic buildings. Amongst the breathtaking scenery dwell peacocks and Chinese pheasants. The Marriott Plaza San Antonio features three historic buildings that date back to the 18th century and are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

  • The conference hotel is conveniently located just 2 blocks from the celebrated and renowned River Walk with an eclectic cluster of shops, restaurants, galleries and boutiques, all within walking distance with many options for strolling, sightseeing, dining, music, and nightlife. The River Walk has guided barge tours run by Rio San Antonio Cruises.

  • The Alamo, where a small band of Texans held out for thirteen days against the army of General Santa Anna, is visited by about 2.5 million people a year. Although the Alamo fell in the early morning hours of March 6, 1836, it has come to symbolize courage and sacrifice for the cause of Liberty.

  • The San Antonio Missions including the San José, San Juan, Espada, and Concepcio are part of a national park, containing many cultural sites along with some natural areas, which was established in 1978 and covers about 819 acres.

  • San Antonio museums include local musuem such as the San Antonio Museum of Art, which is free on Tuesdays (4-9 pm) and Sunday (10am to 12pm), and the San Antonio Children's Museum, which offers three floors of engaging hands-on exhibits and weekly science and arts activities dedicated to children ages 0-10 years.

  • Amusement parks in San Antonio include the following.
    • SeaWorld, a marine life theme park which is home to the world-famous Shamu the killer whale.
    • Six Flags Fiesta Texas, which has several thrill rides and exciting shows.
    • Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, which is a great Drive-thru Safari Park.

  • San Antonio is also home to the four-time NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs, who currently play at the AT&T; Center
